Historic downtown Bardstown, Kentucky, is known as one of the 50 best small towns in the South featured in the book "A Thousand Places to See Before You Die." There is a lot of gastronomic ground to cover, from traditional Mediterranean comfort food to upscale restaurants, but here is our guide to the best local delights.
Set on 80 hectares of active farmland, this American whiskey and bourbon destination experience features a full-service restaurant, bar and bar and private dining room. The rooms are decorated with antique furniture and modern amenities and are named after famous and infamous guests of the tavern, including George Washington, John F. Kennedy, James Madison and John Quincy Adams.
Located in Old Talbott's Tavern, Jailer's Inn welcomes guests with a camp sign on the front lawn. Today, the inn consists of a full-service restaurant, a bar and bar and a private dining room. It used to be home to an old-fashioned tavern, inn, hostel and prison.
The menu includes over 150 bourbon dishes and a pan-fried salmon with 11 cheese macaroni that melt in your mouth. The Southern Burger is topped off with allspice cheese and roasted tomatoes and is available in a variety of toppings such as bacon, cheddar, cheese, tomatoes, onions, peppers and more.

If you really want to experience the full Bourbon Tourism experience in Bardstown, visit some of the other amazing distilleries and experiences in the area, including the Barton 1792 Distillery, Maker's Mark, Four Roses and the Kentucky Bourbon Museum. The Barton1792 Distillery offers a complete tour of its production facility and you can go through its distillation process to learn how bourbon is made, stored and, most importantly, enjoyed. There are many distilleries outside Bardtown that also offer tours, including Maker's, Mark and Four Roses.

If you're craving an old-fashioned fried bologna sandwich, you can cover it at Mammy's, and the chicken sandwich is covered in bourbon glaze. My favourite restaurant in the South - cooked with roast chicken and country ham - will have you eat a piece of homemade cake that will soothe your sweet teeth. Try Kurtz's Restaurant, where home-cooked pans - fried staples - have been served in a relaxed atmosphere since 1937, where locals enjoy a tasty plate of bourbon pork chops.
First of all, it is a great place for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dinner, where a wide range of dishes is available. Decorations include a Louisville favorite called Downtown Hot Brown, bourbon - glazed pork chops, country-style fried steak and fried chicken with chicken. Bourbon enthusiasts who come will enjoy a unique menu specializing in whiskey - brewed dishes. One of my favourites is the walnut-crusted chicken with the typical bourbon sauce.
Bardstown's most famous spirit has shaped the local culinary landscape for decades, providing an often bourbon-infused dining experience. With over 100 acres of farmland under management, the farm has cemented its place on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
Cross the street just behind Mammy's Kitchen and enjoy dinner and drinks at Old Talbott's Tavern, people queuing for hand-made cocktails and delicious food.
The owners of Mammy's Kitchen used to run on Third Street in downtown Bardstown, but have since taken over the space and it is being built directly opposite. If you want to stretch your legs outside of Bardtown, consider the nearby town of Greenville, Kentucky, which is just eight miles away, just a few blocks away.
This deeply Southern spirit, known as the Bourbon Capital of the World (r), is made in the state of Kentucky. More than 80 percent of the world's bourbon is produced in Kentucky, and you'll find some of our state's most prestigious distilleries here in Bardstown. To complete the history of this Kentucky restaurant, the floors were made from ruined local burners. Today, this city is home to the leading distillery in America, the Kentucky Distillery Company. Perhaps you rely on the spirit generated by one or more of the many local businesses, but perhaps not all.
The first two are from Chuckleberry Farm Winery, which produces a berry-like table wine that contains a mix of red, white and blue berries, as well as a variety of berries from the farm.
